Tire Management in Long Races
In 50% or 100% distance races, tire management is as important as pure speed.
Understanding Degradation
Each compound has a useful life window:
| Compound | Useful Life (100%) | Ideal Window | |---|---|---| | Soft | 15-20 laps | 90-105 C | | Medium | 25-35 laps | 85-100 C | | Hard | 40+ laps | 80-95 C |
Conservation Techniques
- Avoid wheelspin on corner exits.
- Brake smoothly in the first few rounds.
- Avoid aggressive curbing which heats up the tires.
- Maintain a clean trajectory without sudden corrections.
Pit Stop Strategy
- 1 stop: Hard -> Medium or Medium -> Hard
- 2 stops: Soft -> Medium -> Soft
- Undercut works best with new tires
Monitoring with Pit Wall
Use the telemetry dashboard to monitor temperature and wear in real-time. This helps decide the ideal pit stop moment.
